Because of bad weather, the Philippine PEN writers’ forum on Jose Rizal, which the Varsitarian is supposed to host June 25 at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex, has been postponed.

Philippine PEN national secretary Lito B. Zulueta, also the Varsitarian’s publications director, said the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) had indicated bad weather in Metro Manila would continue in the weekend.

In a communication to the PEN Board and members, Zulueta said:

“As of 3 p.m. today, the DZIQ (Inquirer radio) says that bad weather will continue
tomorrow. According to DOST Usec Yumul: ‘Rains to continue until tomorrow brought by moonsoon; (typhhon) ‘Falcon’ in Northern Luzon , another LPA (low pressure area) spotted.”

“Because of the rather bleak weather forecast, I am sorry to say that I will have to announce the postponement of the PEN forum on Jose Rizal at UST. I will let you know Monday, June 27, whether the Varsitarian could have the forum reset next Saturday, July 2. Please pray for the safety and well-being of everyone.”

The PEN (Poets & Playwrights, Essayists, Novelists) forum is in connection with the 150th birth anniversary this year of Jose Rizal. Speakers are Elmer Ordonez and National Artists F. Sionil Jose and Bienvenido Lumbera.
