April 22, 8:10 p.m. – CENTRAL Seminary Rector Fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, O.P. is the new prior provincial of the Dominican Province of the Philippines, which makes him the concurrent University vice chancellor.

Timoner was elected to the post in absentia last Thursday during the provincial chapter at the UST Retreat House in Baguio. He replaced Fr. Quirico Pedregosa, O.P., who recently ended his four-year term.

Timoner’s formal installation will be on Monday next week at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag in Pangasinan. The ceremony will be led by Fr. Stephen Redillas, O.P., prior of the Convent of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag.

Timoner was named the 11th head of the country’s premiere seminary in 2007. He was previously UST vice rector for religious affairs, member of the Board of Trustees, and regent of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy at the Philippine Dominican Center of Institutional Studies in 1991, and his bachelor’s degree in sacred theology at UST in 1994. He obtained his licentiate in sacred theology and masteral in intercultural theology from the Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen in the Netherlands in 2004.

Timoner was ordained to the priesthood in 1995.
