TiuThe UST Lady Spikers suffered their first loss against a gritty Ateneo de Manila University side, 25-7, 18-25, 21-25, 20-25, in the 9th Shakey’s V-League quarterfinals at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.

UST was unstoppable in the first set, uncorking an 8-0 blitz to lead Ateneo, 13-2.

But Ateneo recovered and won the next three sets, with Thai import Phee Nok Kasinee scoring back-to-back markers in the fourth frame.

“The players were okay during the second set, but they were burnt out come the third and fourth sets,” coach Odjie Mamon said.

Judy Caballejo and Thai import Utaiwan Kaensing had 17 and 16 points, respectively for UST. The Lady Eagles, who scored their seventh win, were led by Fille Cainglet’s 17 points. Jose Antonio R. Nisay
