CamposTHE UST Lady Spikers recovered from a meltdown in the third and fourth sets but still repulsed a pesky San Sebastian squad in five sets, 25-11, 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 15-8, to secure Game 1 of their best-of-three series in the Shakey’s V-League at the Arena in San Juan Sunday afternoon.

UST came out firing in the last frame with Judy Caballejo leading the fray with four points to take a 13-6 advantage en route to the victory.

Down by two sets, the Lady Stags came alive late in the third set and unleashed four-straight points to take a 23-22 lead. A UST error gave the Lady Stags the set-point advantage.

“Our blocking was not effective. Maika loosened her defense,” coach Odjie Mamon said. “Our goal for this conference is to make it to the finals, then will take it from there.”

Caballejo topscored for UST with 19 points, while guest player Mary Jean Balse had 18. The Lady Spikers are now a win away from the finals.
