22 September 2012, 8:25 p.m. – FOR THE second-straight year, the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe (SDT) failed in its bid to finish at least in the Top 3 of the UAAP cheer dance competition.
The SDT, which performed a Rio festival-inspired routine, settled fourth place during the competition held at a packed MOA Arena Saturday afternoon.
Dan Dimaculangan, club president, said lack of time to prepare caused the problems for the squad.
“We only had a couple of months to prepare and what we executed was a downgraded version of our original routine,” he said. “We don’t know why we never managed to perfect the routine, even during the pep rally, but today we pulled it off.”
Although it committed a major error in its final stunt, the University of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad walked away with the top honors after wowing the crowd with a performance themed “freedom.”
With the victory, UP tied UST with eight cheerdance titles which is the most in the competition’s history.
With a jungle-inspired performance, Far Easter University (FEU) Cheering Squad improved to second place from its third-place finish last year.
But the National University (NU) Pep Squad proved to be the most improved team as it landed on the third spot with its royal-themed performance. Carla Patricia S. Perez
