12 November 2012, 9:38 p.m. – A THIRD-YEAR UST Biology student died this evening, some five hours after falling from the school’s Main Building on Espana Boulevard, Manila.
It was not yet clear whether Jonah Ortiz intentionally jumped from the fourth floor of the 85-year-old building. The College of Science was yet to release an official statement, while the UST Security Office’s incident report would not be available until tomorrow.
Students from the Faculty of Civil Law, which is also located in the Main Building, recalled hearing a loud thud inside the building’s left wing at around 2 p.m. A Pharmacy student witnessed the fall and was undergoing stress debriefing, said Joseph Badinas, UST’s security chief.
Ortiz was rushed to the nearby UST Hospital around five minutes later, but was pronounced dead at 7:40 p.m.
