23 November 2012, 9:11 p.m. – A THIRD-YEAR Pharmacy student was severely injured in a shooting incident this afternoon a few meters away from the UST campus in Manila.

The student was rushed to the UST Hospital at 4:10 p.m. with gunshot wounds at the right side of his lower back, following a supposed “fraternity war” at the corner of P. Noval and J. Barlin streets in Sampaloc.

He also had head wounds after being beaten with a steel baton, authorities said.

Reports from the UST Security Office and the University Belt Police Station stated that the victim is a member of the UST Chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Fraternity.

According to policemen who responded to the scene, one of the victim’s companions had claimed that one of the suspects is a member of a non-recognized fraternity in the University.

APO is the only recognized University-wide fraternity in UST.

Recovered from the crime scene were the steel baton and an empty bullet shell of a .45mm-caliber gun.

A student from Far Eastern University who was with the victim during the incident was also injured. He had attempted to defend the victim, initial reports showed.
