19 February 2013, 1:08 a.m. – THE FACULTY of Engineering is now the winningest team in Pautakan history, retaining its team category title in the 36th edition of the inter-collegiate quiz contest Monday at the Medicine Auditorium. The Faculty of Arts and Letters likewise kept the individual category title.

Engineering got 240 points in the team competition, followed by Arts and Letters (205 points), and AMV-College of Accountancy (160 points).

This was Engineering’s 9th championship title after victories in 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2011 and 2012, exceeding the record of hall of fame awardee Arts and Letters, which ruled the Pautakan in 1979, 1989, 2002 to 2006, and 2009.

“We feel happy and we still can’t believe that we won. We are also very thankful. We did not really expect this but we believe we were prepared to compete,” said Harold Alexis Lao, Engineering team captain.

Meanwhile, Arts and Letters’ Louis Gerard del Rosario won the individual category anew after scoring 175 points. He was followed by College of Science’s Kirk Valentin Aparra (170 points) and Faculty of Pharmacy’s Joseph Gabriel Chua (135 points).

“I feel glad but also dismayed because we failed to get the championship for the team category. We plan to train our three new members and hope that next year they will be more competent, since two of them will compete in the Pautakan for three more years,” said Del Rosario.

The panel of Pautakan resource persons was composed of Selwyn Clyde Alojipan (Natural Sciences) and J. Neil Garcia (Humanities) from the University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman, Oliva Koh (Physical Science) and Jerome Ong (History) from UP-Manila, Jose Ramon Lorenzo (General Information and Current Events) from Quezon City Science High School, and Anita Ong (Mathematics) and Jose Victor Torres (UST History) from De La Salle University.
