16 May 2013, 10:40 p.m. – THE ATENEO de Manila University finished off the
UST Lady Spikers in two games to enter the finals of the
Shakey’s V-League tournament.

UST missed the finals for the first time in 10 years after losing Game 2 of the semifinal encounter versus Ateneo
, 13-25, 25-23, 23-25, 13-25, at the Mall of Asia Arena Thursday evening.

Maika Ortiz led UST with 14 points while Carmela Tunay added 10 markers. Guest player Jeng Bualee led the way for Ateneo with a game-high 22 points.

With the set tied at one apiece, the Lady Spikers held a four-point advantage in the third, 17-13, before Ateneo mounted a 6-0 rally to reclaim the lead, 17-19.

Later in the set, Ortiz moved UST to within one, 23-24, with a through-the-block shot, but Tunay committed a crucial service error in the ensuing possession that handed Ateneo the third-set win and a 2-to-1 set lead.

Following the heart-breaking third set defeat, the Lady Spikers were lackadaisical in the fourth frame as Ateneo cruised to a 13-25.

“They (Lady Spikers) lost heart,” coach Odjie Mamon said. “Mabilis bumigay yung players especially after the third set and we lacked contributions from the other players as well.”
