June 8, 2015, 11:26 p.m. – THE UST Museum’s official website appeared to have been defaced on Monday by a group of Chinese hackers criticizing the Philippines and Vietnam’s seeming alliance to counter Beijing’s aggression in disputed waters of the South China Sea.

The hackers known as 1937CN Team posted defamatory words against the Philippines and Vietnam on the museum’s website, stating that “South China Sea is China’s inherent territory.”

Last May 20, the Philippines and Vietnam agreed to elevate their ties to “strategic partnership” in the face of China’s growing assertiveness.

According to the 1937CN Team, it had hacked 745 websites by September 2014 to express support for China’s territorial claims.

The UST Museum and the Office of Public Affairs have yet to release a statement on the hacking.
