2 September, 2015, 12:20 pm — UST RECTOR Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P. has been elected head of the
Association of South East and East Asian Catholic Colleges and Universities
(Aseaccu), an association promoting Catholic higher education in the
region.

UST Secretary General Fr. Winston Cabading, O.P. accepted the
appointment as Aseaccu executive secretary on the Rector’s behalf, during the
association’s 23rd conference hosted by Soegijapranata Catholic University in
Java, Indonesia last August 25-29.

Fr. Dagohoy replaced Fr. Michael Calmano of Nanzan University in Nagoya,
who led the organization for three years beginning 2012.

According to the University’s official Facebook page, “the
[position of executive secretary] is equivalent to that of a president or
chair, and mandates the official to lead the organization to achieve its goals
as a regional association.”

According to the Aseaccu Constitution, the executive secretary is tasked
to carry out decisions and recommendations made by the group’s general
assembly, take charge of maintaining correspondence with member institutions,
and call for meetings of advisory committees.

The theme of this year’s Aseaccu conference was “Catholic Higher
Education and Religious Inclusiveness,” with speakers tackling the
challenges faced by Catholic higher education in diverse communities.

The Philippines has hosted six
Aseaccu conferences: University of St. La Salle (1994), Ateneo de Manila
(1997), UST (1999), University of San Carlos and University of San Jose-Recoletos
(2000), De La Salle University (2007) and Ateneo de Davao (2014). C.
