STUDIES conducted by fifth-year chemical engineering students won in
the National Undergraduate Research Contest of the Philippine Institute of
Chemical Engineers last Feb. 18 in Boracay.

Carlito Dimaano, Jr. and Ian Kenneth Micaller.

Daphne Buti, Anthony Cruz and Jamie Ashley San Juan, bagged third place for
their study titled “Development of an optical sensor based on immobilized
dithizone on polyvinyl chloride in the determination of cadmium (II) ions for
the monitoring of proper effluent disposal.”

Gregorio, titled “Optimization of process parameters for the photocatalytic
degradation of lignin using nano-TiO2 co-doped with iron and niobium by
response surface methodology,” was among the finalists.
