Graduate School Dean Marilu Madrunio is set to join the Foundation for Upgrading the Standard of Education (FUSE), replacing Milagros Ibe, former dean of the University of the Philippines College of Education.

Other members of the board include former senator Edgardo Angara, former education secretary Fe Hidalgo, De La Salle Professor Emeritus Ma. Lourdes Bautista, former Commission on Higher Education chairwoman Ester Garcia, Metrobank Foundation awardee Evelina Vicencio, and University of the East-Manila College of Arts and Sciences Dean Justina Evangelista. Founded by business tycoon Lucio Tan, FUSE is composed of educators focused on improving the skills of English, science and mathematics teachers.

Programs include regular teacher training workshops; a post-graduate scholarship program for science and engineering teachers; production and distribution of “telecourses” in English, elementary science, chemistry, physics and math; and partnerships with government and private learning institutions.
