May 6, 2016, 7:44p.m. – THE UNIVERSITY has been nominated anew for the “School of the Year” award in the prestigious Quill Awards of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).
UST has won “School of the Year” for two years after bagging the most number of awards in the Student Quill Division.
Angelicum College, Bataan Peninsula State University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Manila and De La Salle College of Saint Benilde are also vying for the recognition.
The Student Quill Awards is the junior version of the Quill Awards, honoring outstanding communication work by students nationwide.
The Varsitarian’s “Botomasino: A Special Coverage of the UST Student Council Elections” and “Papal Visit Infographics” are both nominated for the Top Awards this year.
Other nominees include Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s “Send a Child to School” and “Sukat” and Holy Angel University’s “Paragala: The Central Luzon Media Awards.”
Last year, The Varsitarian took home four awards: an Award of Excellence in the publication category, Awards of Merit for “UAAP Season 77 Infographics” and “Typhoon Glenda Devastates UST Campus” communication creatives, and “Mindanao Campus to Rise Soon” in the writing category.
The Top Award is given to entries with the highest score among Excellence Awardees per division. Schools with the most Excellence Awards are named School of the Year.
The Student Quill follows the rigid seven-point scoring system of the International Gold Quill Awards given to top corporations across the globe.
To obtain an Award of Merit, a student entry must get a score of 4.75 to 5.25. Those with 5.26 to 7.00 are given the excellence award. The top five winners are automatically nominated for the Top Award.
The annual awarding ceremonies are organized by the 30-year-old Philippine chapter of the IABC, a global network of around 15,500 business communicators in 80 countries.
The awarding ceremonies will be on 17 May 2016 at The Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay. Alhex Adrea M. Peralta
