THE UNIVERSITY failed to enter the Quacquarelli-Symonds (QS) worldwide subject rankings for the seventh straight year, left behind by the University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila and De La Salle University.

State-run UP ranked in four out of five broad subjects this year, placing 266th in arts and humanities, 401st to 450th in engineering and technology and life sciences and medicine, and 238th in social sciences and management.

La Salle placed 321st in arts and humanities and 401st to 450th in social sciences and management. Ateneo placed 401st to 450th in arts and humanities and 385th in social sciences and management.

No university in the country figured in the natural sciences.

UST entered the top 200 of the subject rankings in 2011, when it landed on the 101-150 bracket for English and literature.

The latest QS ranking by subject is the world’s largest subject ranking, covering 48 disciplines. According to the official QS website, the annual World University Rankings by Subject aims to “help prospective students identify the world’s leading schools in their chosen field.”

UST still ranks fourth overall in the Philippines in terms of the QS Asian University Rankings and is a four-star university.

In June last year, UST slid to the 801-1000 bracket after clinging to the 701+ bracket for four consecutive years in the QS worldwide university rankings.

According to the QS Top Universities’ website, a university with a four-star rating is “highly international, demonstrating excellence in both research and teaching, and provides an excellent environment for students and faculty.”

UST was cited for its graduates who consistently dominate the top 10 in board exams such as in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, engineering, architecture, accountancy and education.

  1. This QS Ranking must be inaccurate. How can the UST not entrr the subjects ranking when the QS itself said that we dominate the board exams in 10 fields such as medicine, architecture, nursing, etc
