UST CHANCELLOR Fr. Bruno Cadore, O.P. led the inauguration of the newly constructed extension of UST Hospital on Thursday.
Cadore, the outgoing master or head of the worldwide Order of Preachers, led Mass and the solemn blessing of the new building.
Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P., the University rector, said the new hospital building would “most likely” begin operations in January 2020. Construction broke ground way back in October 2013.
“We still have to complete some of the facilities and it will take two to three months of testing and commissioning [before we open it to the public],” Dagohoy told the Varsitarian.
An estimated P900 million was spent on the construction of the extension building, named after Pope St. John Paul II.
A clinical pathology unit, morgue and dietary hospital will occupy the ground floor of the extension, while the business units and laboratories will be on the second floor.
The third floor will house offices and a mezzanine.
An ancillary department with laboratories, radiology units and pharmacies will be on the fourth floor while operating rooms will be housed on the fifth floor.
Rooms for patients will be on the sixth to ninth floors.
Dagohoy said a medical director has yet to be appointed. Charm Ryanne C. Magpali
