STUDENT councils of six schools including UST endorsed the presidential and vice-presidential bids of Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo and Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan on Saturday, April 2.
The UST Central Student Council (CSC), Adamson University Student Government, Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng mga Paaralang Loyola ng Ateneo de Manila, Far Eastern University Central Student Organization, University of the East-Manila (UE Manila) University Student Council and University of the Philippines-Diliman University Student Council expressed their support for the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem during the Student Government Mock Polls 2022 Press Conference.
During the press conference, CSC President Krizia Bricio said the UST CSC supported Robredo and Pangilinan because they manifested the three core values of the University: compassion, competence and commitment.
“Compassionate, competent and committed, these are the three values which are embodied by Vice President Leni Robredo and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan,” Bricio said. “Kaya naman for this year’s polls, the UST CSC declares our full support for the presidential bid of Vice President Maria Leonor ‘Leni’ Robredo and the vice-presidential bid of Sen. Francisco ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan.”
Bricio said leaders could exhibit compassion by being inclusive and making an effort to immerse themselves in communities to find solutions to their problems.
The CSC president added that a clean track record was also a must for a competent leader.
“Nakikita ng masa at hindi absent lalo sa mabibigat na sitwasyon. Hindi sila dapat takot na humarap sa mga tao at harapin ang mga problema ng bansa at mas lalong hindi rin sila takot na panagutan ang kanilang mga responsibilidad,” said Bricio.
Bricio said committed leaders would not leave people behind: “Alam natin na mabigat ang trabaho ng pangulo at bise-pangulo. Marami silang aatupagin, ngunit ang kailangan nating lider ay ang ang kakayanin na tugunan na kahit ano pa mang problema ng iba’t ibang sektor.”
Most of the student councils based their endorsement on mock student polls conducted in their respective schools, except for Adamson University and UST, which chose the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem for exemplifying their preferred style of governance.
UE Manila’s poll used Facebook reactions to collect respondents.
Robredo and Pangilinan topped the student councils’ polls with the following percentages:
- Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng mga Paaralang Loyola ng Ateneo de Manila—Robredo: 95.63 percent (3,197 of 3,343 votes), Pangilinan: 87.02 percent (2,909 votes)
- Far Eastern University (FEU) Central Student Organization—Robredo: 90.10 percent (6,618 of 7,345 votes), Pangilinan: 80.54 percent (5,916 votes)
- The National University Student Government (NUSG)—Robredo: 89.88 percent (1,972 of 2,194 votes), Pangilinan: 83.87 percent (1,840 votes)
- University of the East-Manila University Student Council—Robredo: 97.91 percent (10,800 of 11,030 votes)
- University of the Philippines-Diliman University Student Council—Robredo: 95.38 percent (4,870 of 5,106 votes), Pangilinan: 84.76 percent (4,328 votes).
