A NEW SATELLITE library at the Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, O.P. Building opened to College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS) students on Wednesday, Aug. 9.

The “BiblioTechAI” satellite library on the 19th floor of the Frassati Building was put up to accommodate the request of CICS students to have their own library, according to the college’s regent, Fr. Gaspar Sigaya, O.P.

The CICS moved from the Roque Ruaño Building to the Frassati Building after it was inaugurated in December 2021.

BiblioTechAI, which is a combination of the phrases “biblioteca” or library in Spanish, “technology” and “artificial intelligence” or AI, will feature a specific collection of books for students of CICS programs.

It will operate on the same hours as the Miguel de Benavides Library, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“This idea of putting up BiblioTechAI for the CICS came out during our meeting with the officers of different organizations. One of the questions raised was, can they use the library of the Senior High School? Because the main library is very far from here. So they said, ‘Can we have our own biblioteca?’” he said.

The books will be exclusively for in-room use until library rules are finalized.

Sigaya, also the assistant to the prefect of libraries, said two laboratories in the Frassati Building were retrofitted to house the CICS library.

Aside from books, it will also have computer sets and board games to allow students to socialize, according to the college regent.

While initially limited to CICS students, BiblioTechAI aims to expand its services to more Thomasians in the future, Sigaya said. F.P.M.B de la Cruz
