THE UST Female Tracksters reaped seven medals while the Male Tracksters lost steam in Day 1 of the UAAP Season 80 athletics tournament at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig Wednesday.

Female Trackster Aira Teodosio set a new UAAP record in the hammer throw event with a 43.23-meter performance, while teammate Luz Delfin, who previously held the record at 41.88 meters set last season, settled for silver.

Louielyn Pamatian and Feiza Lenton secured gold and bronze in the women’s 800-meter dash with 2:19.06 and 2:20.65 outputs, respectively.

Eloisa Luzon then bagged gold after recording 12.22 seconds in the women’s 100-meter dash.

UST alao secured two out of three medals in the women’s pole vault category with Emily Obiena and Sarah Dequinan notching gold and silver after jumps of 3.20 and 3.10 meters, respectively.

“On target naman kami kasi sagad na ‘yung FEU sa mga strong events nila eh,” Tracksters head coach Manny Calipes said.

Calipes attributed the Male Tracksters’ empty start due to lack of players in the roster.

UST only mustered fourth place at best with Romnick Nor and Kevin Capangpangan in the 100-meter and 800-meter run, respectively.

“Ito ‘yung low point ng men’s kasi kakaunti lang ang players natin, very affected tayo doon sa K-12. Pero ang challenge ko naman sa [kanila] is to go for medals lang, kahit hindi makuha ‘yung gold, at least may medals,” he said.

UAAP athletics action will resume tomorrow, 6 a.m., at the same venue.
