THE UST Female Tracksters collected six medals to boost their title-retention bid while the Male Tracksters continued to falter in Day 2 of the UAAP Season 80 athletics tournament at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig Thursday.

Karen Janario reigned in the 200-meter run, besting teammate Eloisa Luzon by 0.004 seconds after both tallied 25.39 seconds.

Sarah Dequinan’s 40.98 meters in the women’s javelin throw landed her a gold medal, while Jhannine Mansueto bagged bronze in the women’s 5000-meter run after a 19:26.21 performance.

The Female Tracksters nailed two of the three spots in the women’s triple jump event after Rosnani Pamaybay and Alyssa Andrade registered 11.81 and 11.66 meters for silver and bronze, respectively.

“Everything is on target sa women’s, total dominance ang gusto ko mangyari talaga,” UST athletics head coach Manny Calipes told the Varsitarian.

Kevin Capangpangan clocked in 33:46.24 in the 1000-meter walk for the Male Tracksters’ lone medal of the day.

“Ang sabi ko nga, ito ang down part namin [ng men’s] this year. Pero ang challenge ko lang sa mga nandyan is to get medals at saka pride na lang,” Calipes said.

The Female Tracksters now have a total of 13 medals on a 6-4-3 gold-silver-bronze haul while the Male Tracksters have garnered only one silver medal.

UAAP athletics action will continue tomorrow, 6 a.m., at the same venue.
