Thomasian pole vaulter EJ Obiena won bronze in the Silesia Diamond League in Poland on Saturday (Philippine time), two weeks after he set a new Asian record.

Obiena cleared 5.73 meters in two attempts then failed to clear 5.83 meters to settle for a podium finish.

Sweden’s Armand Duplantis, who had set a new meet record at 6.10 meters, bagged the gold medal. He previously set the bar at 6.21 meters, breaking the world record anew during the 2022 World Athletics Outdoor Championships in Oregon, USA.

Sondre Guttormsen of Norway settled for silver after clearing the bar at 5.73 meters in one attempt.

Just recently, the PSC announced the 26-year-old pole vaulter is set to be reinstated in the national training pool of the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Assocation (Patafa).
