Thomasian pole vaulter EJ Obiena finished atop his third-straight tournament during the True Athletes Classics in Leverkusen, Germany, on Monday (Philippine time).

Obiena took home the gold medal after clearing 5.81 meters via countback. He cleared the bar in two attempts but opted to skip the 5.87-meter bar.

The 26-year-old pole vaulter skipped the 5.43, 5.53, and 5.73-meter bar then cleared 5.63 meters in one attempt.

Dutch pole vaulter Rutger Koppelaar settled for silver while Kurtis Marshall of Australia finished with a bronze medal after both pole vaulters cleared 5.81 meters in two attempts.

Although the three podium finishers cleared the 5.81-meter mark in two attempts, both Koppelaar and Marshall committed penalties in their earlier heights.

Obiena, who currently holds the Asian record in pole vault at 5.94 meters, was given an attempt to reset his personal best and Asian record at 5.95 meters but failed in all three attempts.

Obiena will stay in Germany and will next compete in the St. Wendel City Jump on August 31.
