Thomasian pole vaulter EJ Obiena bagged his third gold medal, his fourth in Europe competitions in just eight days, during the St. Wendel City Jump in Germany on Thursday (Philippine time).

Obiena cleared 5.86 meters, eclipsing the previous meet record at 5.71 meters last year.

The 26-year-old Filipino pole vaulter tried to go for the 6-meter bar to break the Asian record but failed in all three attempts.

Dutch pole vaulter Menno Vloon settled for silver while 20-year-old French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati, who had set a new French U20 record, settled for bronze after both pole vaulters cleared 5.81 meters.
