THE UST Junior Tiger Tracksters notched 14 medals on Day 4 of the UAAP Season 86 athletics tournaments at the PhilSports Track Oval in Pasig on Saturday, Nov. 25.

After four days of play, the defending champions Junior Female Tracksters amassed a division-best 403 points (partial tally) with a 10-9-5 gold-bronze-medal haul, while the Junior Male Tracksters tallied 314 points (partial tally) with a 5-6-5 record, which was good for the second spot in the boys’ division. 

Aira Gacusan continued her stellar performance after notching gold in the girls’ 5,000-meter walk event and setting a new UAAP record with 30:25.61, while Cindy Puerto bagged silver after logging 30:53.60, 28 seconds behind Gacusan. 

Lyka Miravelles broke the UAAP record in the girls’ heptathlon event after amassing 3,163 points, followed by her fellow Junior Female Trackster Mitch Niegas who had 2,974 points for the second spot.

Niegas jumped the farthest in the girls’ long jump event with 4.82 meters for a gold-medal finish.

Jamaica Saligan topped the girls’ 400-meter hurdles event with a 1:06.19 time. She also grabbed the silver in the long jump event. 

In boys’ play, Mejen Sumbongan (gold), Sean Narag (silver) and Francis Sillar (bronze) swept the pole vault event.

Sumbongan broke his own UAAP record he achieved two days ago (3.90 meters) after eclipsing the 4.05-meter bar.

Rafael Balellos threw for 41.75 meters in the boys’ hammer throw event and took home the gold. 

Narag also finished second in the boys’ 400-meter hurdles with a 58.50-performance, while Almie Aiso clocked 16:53.43 in the boys’ 5,000-meter run to collect another silver.

Alio grabbed another medal after he finished third in the 1,500-meter run after posting 4:18.25, while Harvey Villasan placed third in the boys’ 400-meter hurdles with 58.29 seconds.

The Junior Tiger Tracksters will be back in action for the conclusion of the UAAP athletics competition at the same venue on Sunday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m. Brenn Allen L. Flores
