Feb. 11, 2015, 9:15 p.m. – INCONSISTENCY on both ends haunted the UST Tiger Softbelles who suffered a 2-7 beating at the hands of National University in the UAAP Season 77 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum Wednesday.

Trailing by five points, the Tiger Softbelles tried to mount a comeback in the seventh inning, but NU’s pitching and defense were too much to overcome.

NU’s Charslyn Tulalian and Dyan Arago each scored a run via Mia Macapagal’s Run Batted In (RBI) at the bottom of the third inning to give the Lady Bulldogs a comfortable 4-0 lead.

Hannah dela Torre kept the Tiger Softbelles at bay with two runs, one courtesy of a Tin Palma RBI in the fourth inning, 2-5.

In the sixth, the Lady Bulldogs pulled away after Ghene Nietes’ homerun that also sent Kristine Acuna to home base, 2-7.

“We cannot connect. The pitchers were off [and] we were outhit by NU,” head coach Sandy Barredo said.

The Tiger Softbelles, who dropped to fourth place with a 2-3 win-loss record, only managed three hits compared to NU’s 15, allowing the Lady Bulldogs to score a run in all but one inning.

UST will try to bounce back against the University of the East on Saturday, 12 noon, at the same venue.
