THE UST Golden Sox banked on a huge fifth inning to zoom past the National University Bulldogs, 9-4, in the UAAP Season 81 baseball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Wednesday.

With all the bases filled in the fifth inning, NU pitcher Angelo Espinosa walked Mark Beronilla that sent Vince Mangapis to home plate to tie the game at 1-all.

UST added seven more runs in the fifth inning courtesy of Jayvee Selda, Beronilla, Alwen Calbang, Gio Martinez, Ron de la Cruz, Benedict Pedracio and Ismael Antoneo to put NU away.

Selda sealed the win for the Golden Sox courtesy of Beronilla’s right field fly run-batted-in at the bottom of the eighth inning.

Noel Mercader scored NU’s final run off a Jerome Teneris left field fly RBI at the top of the eighth inning.

UST rose to a 4-2 win-loss card while NU fell to 1-5.

The Golden Sox will next face the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on March 10, Sunday, 7 a.m., at the same venue.
