THE UST Golden Sox hammered the Rizal Technological University Thunders Alumni, 12-5, in the Philippine Baseball League Open Conference at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday.
With a slim 6-4 lead at the bottom of the fifth inning, UST pounded six runs, courtesy of Arnel Villariquez, Jan Santiago, Jayvee Selda, Mhigeil Cerda, Vince Mangapis, and Israel Antonio, 12-4.
The Thunders cut the Golden Sox’s lead to two at the bottom of the fifth inning with contributions from Jasper Alvarez and Antonio Kelly Culubong II, 4-6.
Selda, Adrian Aguilar, Mangapis and Antonio connived for four runs at the bottom of the second inning for a 6-2 UST lead.
The Golden Sox produced nine strikeouts while the Thunders only had one.
UST will next face the De La Salle University Green Batters on June 16, Sunday, 8 a.m., at the same venue.
