THE UST Growling Tigresses survived a nail-biter against the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 73-67, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Saturday.

UST overcame a seven-point deficit with a 12-0 run to pull ahead, 69-65, late in the fourth.

Valerie Mamaril tried to keep FEU alive but Tigress Lon Rivera found Sai Larosa for an easy deuce, then sealing the game with 24.3 ticks left, 71-67.

UST’s defense kept the Lady Tamaraws without a field goal in the last four minutes.

“I think ‘yung na-technical ako parang medyo nabuhayan [kami.] It’s a great comeback for us. Our defense ‘nung last four minutes sabi ko, ‘we need to double time,’ UST head coach Haydee Ong said.

Angeles led the Tigresses with 21 points and five rebounds while Shanda Anies poured 18 markers.

Larosa also had 17 points for UST, including 11 in the payoff period, and 10 boards.

Mamaril paced FEU with 21 markers while Fatima Quiapo added 11 points.

UST now holds a 3-1 win-loss card for second place behind defending champion National University.

Up next for the Growling Tigresses are the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles on Sept. 27, Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the Araneta Coliseum.
