THE UST Growling Tigresses booked their Final Four ticket after whipping the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles, 67-50, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday.
An 11-0 UST run extended a 14-point third-quarter lead to 25 in the payoff period.
“Pasok na kami sa Final Four so my goal now is to stay on the number two spot para we have a twice-to-beat advantage,” UST head coach Haydee Ong said.
Team captain Jhenn Angeles led the Tigresses with 22 points and eight rebounds off the bench while Sai Larosa tallied 15 markers and 13 boards.
Tina Deacon paced Ateneo with 12 markers while Hazelle Yam and Katrina Guytingco scored 10 points apiece.
UST hauled down 51 rebounds, including 22 offensive, while the Lady Eagles had 41 boards.
The Tigresses also converted 20 points off Ateneo’s 31 turnovers.
The Tigresses remained at second place with a 9-2 win-loss record behind the undefeated National University.
UST will face the University of the Philippines on Oct. 29, Sunday, 8 a.m., at the same venue.
