THE UST Tiger Cubs absorbed a 63-37 drubbing from the Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws in the UAAP Season 81 boys’ basketball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym Saturday.

The Tiger Cubs dropped to a 3-4 win-loss record to tie the De La Salle Zobel at fifth spot while FEU improved to a 5-2 slate.

With the Baby Tamaraws leading by 18 in the third period, UST ignited a 9-2 run to cut the margin to 11, 27-38, but FEU fired 15 unanswered points to pull away for good, 53-27.

“Napagod ang mga bata kasi pangatlong game na namin to this week and nabigla kami sa depensa ng FEU,” Tiger Cubs head coach Bonnie Garcia told the Varsitarian.

Ron Tolentino’s charity in the 3:47 mark of the payoff period gave FEU its biggest lead of the game at 27, 59-32.

The Baby Tamaraws started the game firing on all cylinders to build a 14-2 lead in the first frame.

FEU shot 27-for-65 from the field, good for 41.54 percent while the Tiger Cubs converted only 13 of their 59 attempts for just 22.03 percent.

JB Sajonia led the Baby Tamaraws with 12 points and five rebounds while RJ Abarrientos chipped in 11 markers.

Bismarck Lina paced UST with 11 points and seven boards.
