THE CENTRO Escolar University Scorpions notched their second-straight victory in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup after holding off the UST Growling Tigers, 75-73, at the Arena in San Juan Sunday.
UST had a chance to snatch the win after CEU’s Franz Diaz split his free throws with five seconds left in the game. But Renzo Subido‘s three-point attempt rimmed out.
“We try to hit our open threes but there were poor decision-making. Instead of making extra passes, tinira lang nang tinira ang bola,” Tigers head coach Aldin Ayo said.
UST shot a measly 5-for-28 from beyond the arc, while CEU made seven out of 15 attempts.
Judel Fuentes led the Scorpions with 25 points and three rebounds, while Christian Uri and Keanu Caballero added 10 markers apiece.
Soulemane Chabi Yo had a double-double of 19 points and 10 boards for the Tigers.
CEU improved to a 2-0 win-loss card, while UST remained winless in two outings.
The Tigers will try to bounce back against the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta on May 20, Monday, 12:30 p.m., at the same venue.
