THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Fighting Maroons crushed the UST Growling Tigers, 89-72, in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup at the Arena in San Juan Friday.
The Maroons improved to second place with a 5-2 win-loss card, while the Tigers dropped to sixth with a 1-4 slate.
Javi Gomez de Liano’s jumper punctuated UP’s 17-7 run to put away the reeling Tigers.
“I told them to have a sense of pride in what they do. ‘Yon ang naging problema ng mga ‘yan kanina,” head coach Aldin Ayo said.
Bright Akuhetie had a double-double outing of 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Kobe Paras added 15 markers for UP.
Rhenz Abando fired 24 points for the Tigers.
UST will try to bounce back against the Mapua University Cardinals on June 10, 12:30 P.M., at the same venue.
