VETERAN point guard Marvin Lee will skip his final playing year for the UST Growling Tigers in the UAAP to play for the Manila Stars in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, head coach Aldin Ayo said.

Ayo admitted he brought up the idea to Lee, citing the caliber of rookies for the Tigers this year.

“He’s good at offense pero hindi masyado sa defense. I told him he should try at the MPBL rather than taking his chances here in UST. Mahihirapan kasi siya sa mga kasabayan niya na ka-pwesto niya,” Ayo said.

He added that guards like Renzo Subido and Mark Nonoy fit his system more both on the offensive and defensive side.

Last season, the former team captain averaged 14.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.

He also had a career-high of 30 points in UST’s 79-68 win over the University of the East Red Warriors last Oct. 28.

Lee was also a part of the UST team that yielded to the Far Eastern University Tamaraws in the UAAP Season 78 finals in 2015.
