BISMARCK Lina erupted with 16 points and 10 rebounds as the UST Tiger Cubs outlasted the La Salle Green Hills Greenies, 72-67, in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup at the Arena in San Juan Friday.
The Tiger Cubs climbed to fourth place with a 2-2 win-loss card, while the Greenies dropped to fifth behind a 1-4 slate.
Lina made two crucial blocks with 13 seconds left in the game, before Jethro Escoto sealed the win from the freethrow line.
“We were down by 10 or 11 during the game but I believed in the guys. Makakabalik naman kami, medyo nagkanya-kanya lang pero noong inikot na namin ang bola at inatake ng inatake depensa nila, something happened,” UST coach Bonnie Garcia told the Varsitarian.
The Tiger Cubs made 23 of their 34 free throws, while the Greenies were only 10 of 25.
CJ Austria had 16 markers for UST.
RC Calimag led La Salle with 23 points and eight rebounds.
Up next for the Tiger Cubs are the Nazareth School of National University Bullpups on June 14, Friday, 6:45 P.M., at the same venue.
