ANOTHER player from the Gilas Pilipinas Youth team will be joining UST, as former Far Eastern University guard Renzo Competente has committed to join the Growling Tigers.

Competente joins Gilas teammate Zain Mahmood as UST’s latest recruits.

In his rookie season, where he was utilized for only 84:50 minutes in 12 games played, Competente averaged 1.5 points on 21.4-percent shooting from the field.

Prior to his brief stint with the Tamaraws, the 19-year-old sharpshooter from Citrus Valley High School produced 11.7 points and 3.7 rebounds on 44.4 percent shooting clip in the FIBA U18 Asian Championship held in Tehran, Iran last August 2022.

Competente’s three-point expertise and perimeter offense could help the Growling Tigers.

UST ended Season 86 as the worst team in three-pointers made with 24.8 percent (74-of-288) and perimeter points with 22.3 percent (312 points).

Once he completes his one-year residency, Competente will be eligible to play for three years beginning Season 88 and suit up alongside Nic Cabanero, Forthsky Padrigao, Kyle Paranada, Ashon Andrews, Ice Danting and Leland Estacio.
