REIGNING champions UST Lady Spikers annihilated the Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles and secured their fourth straight finals appearance with a twice-to-beat advantage in the UAAP Season 82 beach volleyball tournament at the SM Sands by the Bay Saturday.
The UST tandem of Gen Eslapor and Babylove Barbon thrashed the Ateneo duo of Ponggay Gaston and Roma Doromal in the semifinals, 21-7, 21-8.
The Lady Spikers secured their finals ticket after Barbon’s game-winning cut-shot in the second salvo.
Trailing 3-4 in the opening canto, Eslapor’s cut shot capped an 18-3 blast to claim their set advantage.
The España-based pair went unbeaten in seven games in the elimination round.
The UST Lady Spikers will defend their crown against the De La Salle Lady Archers on Oct. 5, Sunday, 8:40 a.m. at the same venue.
