UAAP MVP Tiger Sand Jaron Requinton reinforced the Philippine men’s beach volleyball team which toppled Timor-Leste, 2-0, in the 30th Southeast Asian Games at Subic Bay Tennis Court Friday.
The Philippines’ tandem of James Buytrago and Tiger Sand Requinton blasted Timor-Leste’s Robson Xavier and Christian Jean, 21-13, 21-16, to secure a game advantage.
In the second match, Philippines’ Jude Garcia and Edmar Bonono sealed the win with a sweep of Timor-Leste’s Silvano Alduauo and Deyanos Belo, 21-7, 21-16.
In women’s play, the beach volleyball team lost to Indonesia, 0-2.
The country’s pair of UST alumna Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons fell short in a tight 18-21, 21-16, 13-15 match against Indonesia’s Dhita Juliana and Putu Utami.
Philippines’ Dzi Gervacio and Dij Rodriguez bowed to Indonesia’s Allysah Mutakharah and Deti Ratnasari, 14-21, 16-21.
The men’s team will next face Malaysia while the women’s squad will go against Vietnam on Dec. 1, Sunday at the same venue.
