The UST Lady Spikers opened their UAAP Season 85 with back-to-back wins after dominating the FEU Lady Tamaraws and UP Lady Maroons on day one of the women’s beach volleyball tournament at the Sands SM by the Bay on Saturday.
The UST tandem of Gen Eslapor and Babylove Barbon escaped FEU’s duo of Gerzel Petallo and Melody Pons in an extended match, 23-21, 21-17.
Barbon said she and Eslapor had to overcome first-game jitters to dispose of FEU in their first game in two years.
“Para sa first game namin, hindi kami ganoon maglaro, nag-aadjust kami. ‘Yong kalaban namin hindi sila basta-basta,” Barbon told the Varsitarian
In their second match, the Lady Spikers got their groove after trouncing the Lady Maroons’ Euri Eslapor and Alyssa Bertolano easily, 21-10, 21-13.
The Lady Spikers are seeking their fifth-straight championship and are eyeing their eighth overall title.
The Lady Spikers will next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles at the same venue tomorrow at 2:40 p.m.
