The UST Tiger Sands began their quest for a four-peat in dominant fashion after sweeping the DLSU Green Archers and the Ateneo Blue Eagles on day one of the UAAP Season 85 men’s beach volleyball tournament at the Sands SM by the Bay on Saturday.
Tiger Sands Jaron Requinton and Rancel Varga made quick work of DLSU’s Noel Kampton and Vince Maglinao 21-12, 21-15 for their first win.
They trounced Ateneo’s Jian Salarzon and Amil Pacincio, 21-12, 21-18 to end their first-day campaign blemishless.
Despite having back-to-back wins in their season opener, UST head coach Paul Jan Doloiras said the team still had to improve in a lot of areas.
“Sanay kasi kaming nananalo, so ‘yung culture naming nananalo, hangga’t maari ‘yung best ‘yung ibibigay namin kada game para makita namin kung saang limit ang kaya namin gawin,” he told the Varsitarian.
The UST Tiger Sands will next face the NU Bulldogs at the same venue on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 10:40 a.m.
