THE UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe failed to reach the podium and settled for fourth place in the UAAP Season 81 cheerdance competition at the Mall of Asia Arena Saturday.

The National University Pep Squad reclaimed the title they lost last year after scoring 711 points with its Mexican-themed performance.

The Far Eastern University Cheering Squad’s 70’s-inspired routine landed at second place with 655.5 points while defending champion Adamson University Pep Squad settled for bronze with its Lion King-themed showcase tallying 638.5 markers.

The Beyonce-inspired Salinggawi, which bagged silver last season, missed the podium by a measly .5 after scoring 638 points.

“Sayang kasi siguro without our errors, nag-podium pa sana kami. It served as a reminder na we have a lot more to improve on,” Salinggawi head coach Mark Chaiwalla said.

With a 10-point deduction, UST landed second in tosses (75 points), third in dance (346 points), fourth in tumbling (78.5 points), fourth in pyramids (72 points) and sixth in stunts ( 76.5 points),

The University of the East Pep Squad slid to fifth with 602.5 points while the University of the Philippines Pep Squad settled for sixth place anew with 568.5 points.

The Ateneo de Manila University Blue Babble Battalion finished seventh with 558 points, followed by the De La Salle University Animo Squad which registered 459.5 for eighth place.

NU, FEU and Adamson also dominated the group stunts category, finishing first, second and third, respectively.

UST is still tied UP as the winningest team in the UAAP with eight championships.
