UST Female Woodpushers overcome Adamson

THE UST Female Woodpushers dominated the Adamson University, 3.5-0.5, while their male counterparts salvaged a draw against the De La Salle University in the UAAP Season 80 chess tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion Sunday.

Female Woodpushers Highzzy Manaloto, Cyamir Villanueva and Shayxanthe Guico outsmarted their respective opponents to give UST its second-consecutive win.

May Ann Alcantara settled for a draw against Adamson’s Abigail Tamundong, 3.5-0.5.

In men’s play, UST had a 2-1 advantage but Heirry Manaloto succumbed to La Salle’s Christian Nañola.

Male Woodpushers Philip Uy and Peter Ablid forced a draw against their respective opponents before UST team captain Christian Flores outclassed La Salle’s Denzel Amar.

The Female Woodpushers rose to fourth seed with 17 points, while the Male Woodpushers fell to fourth with 17.5 points, a point below third seed Far Eastern University.

The men’s and women’s teams will face the Ateneo de Manila University and La Salle, respectively, on March 17, Saturday, 1 p.m., at the same venue.
