UST FEMALE Woodpusher May Ann Alcantara notched three silver medals in the 20th Asean Age Group Chess Championships in Mandalay City, Myanmar last June 9 to 19.
Alcantara bagged the silver medal in the under-20 team standard category alongside Allaney Doroy and Viona Nepascua with 17 points, three short of gold medalist Vietnam.
“Sobrang fulfilling na nagbunga ‘yong mga sacrifices ko last semester para makapag complete ulit internationally. Eliminations pa lang sinet ko na ang mindset ko na last year ko na ito sa Age Group so I have to give my all,” Alcantara told the Varsitarian in an online interview.
In the under-20 team blitz category, the trio of Alcantara, Doroy and Nepascua nabbed second place after garnering 16.5 points, 3.5 points ahead of third placer Myanmar.
Alcantara teamed up with Rizalyn Tejadva and Doroy in the under-20 team rapid category to secure first runner-up with 15 points.
Alcantara also booked her spot in the national team after claiming the championship in the under-20 division of the Governor Amor Deloso National Age Group Chess Championships last April.
