THE UST Male Woodpushers outwitted the National University Bulldogs while the Female Woodpushers bowed down to the De La Salle University Lady Archers in the UAAP season 82 chess tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion Sunday.
The men’s team outlasted the Bulldogs, 2.5-1.5, while the Lady Archers outsmarted women’s squad, 4-0.
UST’s Julius Gonzales and Brylle Gever Vinluan outplayed Bulldogs John Kendrick Esban and Jayson Danday, respectively.
Woodpusher Edsel Vosostros settled for a draw against King Alexander Reyes while Melito Oscar Jr. lost to Robin Ignacio.
In women’s play, Female Woodpushers Marylaine Lumacad, Maycydel Fajardo, Jamaica Lagrio and Vaneza Villamil all yielded to DLSU’s Marie Antuinette San Diego, Ella Grace Moulic, Samantho Glo Revita and Franchelle Eds Javier, respectively.
The women’s team fell to fourth place with 17.5 points, while the men’s squad remained at solo second with 26.5 points.
The Male Woodpushers will next face the Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles while the Female Woodpushers face the University if the Philippines on Oct. 19, Saturday, 1 p.m. at the same venue.
