THE UST Teletigers survived the De La Salle University Viridis Arcus, 3-2, to bag back-to-back championships in the best-of-five finals of the Garena League of Legends (LoL) Varsity League (LVL) Spring Term 2018 at World Plaza in Taguig Sunday.

The Teletigers bagged their first championship last February in the first edition of the LVL.

With the win, the Teletigers booked a ticket to China for the International e-Sports Federation (IEF).

They also have the chance to compete in the LoL International Collegiate Cup (LICC) Qualifiers for Southeast Asia, should they win against the champion teams in Visayas and Mindanao.

“It’s not as dramatic and emotional like last year… You can see the international scene growing and we’re seeing UST now growing and going into the championship,” Teletigers team captain and support player Theo Ignacio told the Varsitarian in an online interview.

The team consists of incoming fourth-year Literature student Ignacio, Information Technology (IT) fresh graduate Brussel Isidro (top), incoming fourth-year Tourism student Laurence Padilla (carry), incoming Computer Science junior Isiah Loberiza (midlaner), incoming third-year IT student Van Rinchon (top), second-year Computer Science student Wilmer Ting (jungle) and senior high school student Jan Edward Hortizuela (support).

The top-seeded Teletigers lost to La Salle in the eliminations to setlle with an 8-1 record, while the Bulacan State University (BulSU) Gosu X grabbed second seed with a 7-2 record. Both teams automatically landed spots in the semis.

UST then escaped the AMA-QC Clash Masters, 3-2, while La Salle upset BulSU, 3-2.

The Teletigers took home 80,000 pesos as cash prize.

LoL is a fast-paced, competitive online game developed and published by Riot Games.
