The Thomasian Gaming Society’s inaugural Bayanihan Cup, an e-sports event featuring Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), Call of Duty Mobile (CODM) and Valorant tournaments, has raised P39,000 for charity.

The Bayanihan Cup was held during the University’s Paskuhan festivities on Dec. 17.

The raised money will go to partner communities in the towns of San Juan in Laur and Ariendo in Bongabon in Nueva Ecija and Sitio Galilee and Sitio Mainit in Antipolo, Rizal.

Bayanihan Cup project heads John Louise Lagazo and Hannah Audrey Carpio said the tournament was initiated with the thought of showcasing gaming talents while highlighting charity.

“It was supposed to be a stand-alone project, then we thought of launching it during Paskuhan so we would be able to attract more viewers…since we planned for it to be a charity event in the first place,” Carpio told the Varsitarian.

The Bayanihan Cup had a total prize pool of P49,500. Two-thirds of the amount was allocated to the event’s charity initiatives.

The tournament was open to teams from UST and outside UST. Over 120 teams registered.

“[W]e want to show that everyone can gather through gaming,” Lagazo said.
