TWO Thomasian eSports teams recently won in the national Fight Campus League Call of Duty: Mobile (COD:M) tournaments organized by Southeast Asian organization, FIGHT Esports.

ALK Teletigers completed a clean sweep, 3-0, against the San Agustin Golden Eagles of the University of San Agustin in the Multiplayer Finals event on Friday while the Mangtootz Warriors reigned in the Battle Royale division on June 9.

ALK won the first two maps, 10-6 each, and prevailed in a tight Game 3 match, 10-8, in the best-of-five finals.

Right off the bat, in terms of experience, we had the advantage which gave us the upper hand, also we had play or strategies per map prepared for our enemy and it worked effectively.,” in-game leader Conrad Joseph “TGR Çons” Silario told the Varsitarian.

TGR Çons dominated in the championship game, scoring 21 kills with 2,560 points, while Younus Ibrahim “TGR Yunri” Arceo and Dominic “TGR Nico” Briguez ruled in the first two games with 20 and 15 kills, respectively.

The team kicked off in the third map with a 6-3 lead before entering the second half, but the late-game chase by the Golden Eagles gained them a one-point lead, 7-8, their first lead in the championship series.

“Our strategy was highly effective and I’m glad that our team didn’t negatively react over that matter where they got the lead. Rather than being tilted about it, we thought of a solution to diminish the problem instead,” Silario said.

The Mangtootz Warriors, on the other hand, won on day two of the tournament against 25 different teams from various colleges in the region.

“The first thing that I can tell about my team is that we actually haven’t yet joined any other tournaments aside from this tournament,” team leader Carl Angel “Abyss” Jaochico told the Varsitarian.

The sophomore Nursing student said that the team was only formed when Jaochico commented on the organizer’s page to look for teams who wanted to participate.

With a win in a regional eSports tournament, Jaochico said that it may be a good start for a great opportunity to represent UST in other eSports competitions.

“Winning is one of those bonus achievements. It also brings me excitement as to what future tournaments we would also participate in, representing UST,” Jaochico said.

The Mangtootz Warriors team was composed of Jaochico, Keith “Lux” Ganzon, Laurence Miguel “Pug” Sanchez, and Jan Edvard “Vardeh” Ogena while the ALK roster included Silario, Arceo, Briguez, Roi Lance “TGR 21 L4NCE”  Manuel, and Matt “TGR Swoosh” Gloria.

ALK Teletigers took home a P50,000 cash prize while the Mangtootz Warriors bagged P10,000.
