AN ASIAN studies freshman from the Faculty of Arts and Letters has been chosen as the University’s courtside reporter for UAAP Season 81.

Makyla Chavez, 18, will replace Tonie Moreno, who reported from the sidelines last season.

“Courtside reporting is more than just facing the camera or the crowd. It’s a privilege that holds so much responsibilities,” Chavez told the Varsitarian.

Chavez, a member of the UST Tiger TV, was picked following a month-long screening process involving more than 200 aspirants last July.

Last Aug. 15 came the announcement that she was among the five new courtside reporters this season, along with Corinne Catibayan (Adamson University), Aiyana Perlas (De La Salle University), Frannie Reyes (Ateneo de Manila University) and Sam Corrales (University of the Philippines).

Completing the cast are old-timers Migs Gomez (University of the East), Sydney Crespo (Far Eastern University) and Miguel Dypiangco (National University).

Chavez will make her debut with the Growling Tigers against the NU Bulldogs on Sept. 8, Saturday, 4 p.m., at the Mall of Asia Arena.
