THE UST Golden Booters nailed their first Ang Liga football championship at the expense of the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 1-0, at the Moro Lorenzo Football pitch Sunday.
Renz Gumban scored the lone goal at the 46th minute following a free kick from Jelo Facturanan.
“Masaya (ang feeling) para sa mga players kasi gusto talaga nilang mag-champion. Confidence wise, umangat ang mga players prior to the UAAP,” head coach Marjo Allado told the Varsitarian.
Blue Eagle Samuel Lim almost tied the game in the 60th minute but UST goalie Zaldy Abraham prevented the equalizer.
UST defender Ian de Castro, who was named Finals Most Valuable Player, dedicated the victory to his cousin who died in a motorcycle accident yesterday.
“Number one supporter ko siya sa aming magpi-pinsan,” De Castro said.
