THE UST Golden Booters notched their first win after prevailing over the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 1-0, in the UAAP Season 86 men’s football tournament at the UP Diliman Football Pitch on Thursday, Feb. 22.

After a goal by UST forward Kyler Escobar was waved off for being offside, Chris Valderama scored the lone goal of the game in the 44th minute.

Adamson had a chance early in the second half as  Kelvenn Banagodos was awarded a penalty kick, but it was swatted away by UST team captain and goalkeeper Miguel Abada.

“We needed this win kasi we need the players to build confidence and momentum also,” UST head coach Marjo Allado told the Varsitarian. “What’s important is maka-catch up kami doon sa mga ibang team na nag-gain ng points.”

“We learned a lot from our loss to UP that we addressed for this game. Our four defenders played well, they poured too much effort to get the three points,” Allado said.

UST improved to a 1-1-0 (W-L-D) record, while Adamson remained winless with a 0-1-1 slate.

The UST Golden Booters will next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles at the same venue on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 4:30 p.m.
