THE UST Tiger Softbelles avenged their first round loss against the National University Lady Bulldogs, 2-1, in the UAAP Season 80 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Thursday.
Softbelle Bianca Hernandez hit a center-left-field run-batted-in (RBI) single in the fourth inning to send Sheila Perales back to home plate, 2-1.
NU drew first blood in the first inning before CJ Roa converted a run in the second inning, also courtesy of Hernandez’s left-field RBI double for a 1-1 tie.
Despite the win, Softbelles head coach Sandy Barredo said the Softbelles needed to improve on their batting.
“Actually, hindi dapat ganoon ‘yung score. Naging pabaya ‘yung runner ko noong second [inning]. Naka-score pa sana tayo,” Barredo told the Varsitarian.
Ace pitcher Ann Antolihao registered seven strikeouts, including three in the sixth frame.
The Tiger Softbelles took solo second-seed with a 6-2 win-loss record.
UST will next face the De La Salle University on Feb. 24, Sunday, 11 a.m., at the same venue.
